Students search for bits of it scattered around the web, scavenging the forums and Q&A platforms... It is the primary reason why PhD advisors exist...

I am talking about the folkloric knowledge that make up our peripheral wisdom. These bits of knowledge are too unoriginal to make it to the research papers and too scattered to make it to the textbooks. Nevertheless they are extremely important in making new discoveries.
